University of Texas of the Permian Basin student Owusu “Obie” Bafour was recently named as an honoree to the International Dean’s List Society for his Fall 2017 grades. The international student was born in Ghana (a republic in the subregion of West Africa). However, he grew up in Canada. “I am a Canadian citizen studying here at UTPB and am a first-generation college student,” he noted. The junior is a dual-degree major in business marketing and political science. He intends to graduate the summer of 2018. This year he is one of two Archer fellows selected by the John Ben Shepperd Public Leadership Institute. “I’m the student worker for the art department. I am the gallery manager assistant to Jake Wiegal. I am also a member of the student senate, serving on the public relations committee,” Bafour said. As an Archer Fellow, he will be interning in Washington D.C the entire 2017 Fall semester. His biggest cultural shock was how “everybody seems to own and carry a gun [in Texas].” His favorite American food is steak. “I’m a meat lover,” Bafour avowed. He also said “Everything is big here–including food portions!”
