Author of “Announcements from the Planetarium” Judith Arcana is a Poetry and Prose writer. She was born on February 5, 1943, in Cleveland, Ohio. She graduated from Niles Township High School in Illinois. She has worked as a teacher for several years. She was a member of Abortion Counseling Service for Women’s Liberation also known as Jane. She started writing for publication since 1961. She has written many poems, books, stories, and essays. She is also a non-fiction inspirational writer.

The stream that flows throughout the book, “Announcements from the Planetarium,” is about aging into a new consciousness that as one becomes an elder. This book tells us what it is meant to be aged. It talks about ageism. Ageism is the bad treatment of old people because they are old. Furthermore, it states the worse condition of women in this largely white society. It talks about the how elder people feel.

“always, writer says, the light on the water

Shines like diamonds, shines like gold

but the truth is that gold, and that diamonds

want only to shine like the light on the water”

This book is a collection of poems that she has written. She has added some poems that she wrote several years ago.

Arcana said she was inspired by Shakespeare’s writing when she was in high school. She liked to hear and watch the drama of Shakespeare. She likes to be completely alone while writing. She likes to listen the stream of water, mountains. She read her book at a bookstore in downtown in Chicago. She felt very proud at that moment as people loved her writing and applauded for her book.Arana was on campus as part of the Library’s Odessa Council of Arts & Humanities (OCAH) Grant. The Library staff hosted its continuing Guest Author Presentation Series, 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 5, in Room 142 of the J.
