Poetry Night was presented April 5 at the Ellen Noel Art Museum.

Five University of Texas of the Permian Basin (UTPB) students read their poems that were recently published in the Sandstorm 2017-2018 literary magazine.

Jason Lagapa, associate professor at UTPB and faculty advisor for the magazine, said he was happy about the turnout and was pleased that all the people that were reached to recite were available.

The poems that were read were “Salvation” by Aidely Aranda, “Chemistry” by Kaitlyn Driver, “Doubt in Flight” by Mariana Veloso, “Callar es la ultima opcion” by Ana Ruth Lugo  Mejia and the short story “Grandma Did what?” by Karolina Whitley-Dobbins.

After the authors recited their works, the students and audience members were encouraged to stay and participate in the haiku workshop. Haiku is a Japanese poem of seventeen syllables, in three lines of five, seven, and five.
